Apostle John Louis Hickman, Jr. is the Chief Apostle of The Living Word Fellowship of International Churches. He is the founding pastor and visionary of The Living Word Faith Center, a non-denominational, multi-ethnic church located in Houston, Texas. Apostle Hickman is the proud father of Bernadette, Rebecca and Angela. He is a member of the Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops.
This charismatic man of faith was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He served a 3 year tour of duty in the Navy after high school graduation and followed with 20 years in US Air Force Reserves. He is a retired Major. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California; a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Tarleton State University and certified in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas. Doctoral Studies were pursued at Vanderbilt University.
An educator at heart, Apostle Hickman occupied an extensive career in the public school system. He served as teacher, coach, and assistant principal in Fort Worth, Texas; principal of the historic Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas; and superintendent of the Gould Independent School System, Gould Arkansas. After 20 years of public school service, Bishop answered the call from God to preach the Gospel. He attended Jerry Savelle School of World Evangelism and completed his ministerial training.
In 2001, the Lord directed Apostle John Hickman to establish a church in Houston, Texas. Heeding this directive, The Living Word Faith Center was organized and established in the heart of Southwest Houston. Today the church continues to thrive as a center for healing and deliverance.
In 2003 Bishop Robert Young of the Episcopal Church, Fort-Worth Diocese consecrated Pastor John Hickman to the office of Bishop. Immediately Bishop Hickman began training sons and daughters to expand the Kingdom of God through the first school of ministry and Bible College he organized in Houston, Texas. The passion of God blazed his heart for Africa. Pursuing the call, he planted and established his first church in 2004 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria; within a few months, the second church and a Bible college in Lagos, Nigeria was planted. After successfully planting his third church in Abuja, March 2005, Archbishop Abraham Onyieran, the presiding prelature of The Pentecostal Churches, laid hands and affirmed Bishop John Hickman to the office of Apostle in Lagos, Nigeria.
In the following months of 2005 this apostle was met with increased demands to father and mentor other pastors in the USA. To facilitate the need he established “The Living Word Fellowship of International Churches”. The first Convocation of The Fellowship of International Churches convened October 2006.
Apostle Hickman has planted and established churches abroad in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Philippine Island, Ghana, Brazil and Dominican Republic. He continues with passion to serve the African Nations. His work there is reflected in four established Bible Colleges in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos, Nigeria; and an orphanage, “The Hickman House” in Bush Back Creek, South Africa. Apostle oversees USA churches in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. He is a beloved father to bishops in his reformation, and celebrated among the Body of Christ for his humility, generosity and counsel.
He ministers in seminars, revivals, and conferences on national and international platforms. He is recognized as a thorough clinician in leadership training and for his dynamic delivery of the Word of God. He brings scriptures to life with anecdotal stories, humor, and relevant truths that transform. As a uniquely gifted prophet, Apostle John Hickman’s ministry is marked with heartfelt passion for people, healing, deliverance and miracles.
